Our
hearts go out to the victims, their families, and friends of the recent tragedy.
| On Tues., Sept. 11, in the midst of the national tragedy, someone went up to a local shopkeeper in southern Prince George's County and asked why his people did this terrible thing. He's Indian. We need to spread the word that this was a hate crime, not an act of war. It was not perpetrated by a government, culture, or religious group. This was just one small group of people who we cannot know by the look on their face. Acting hatefully will not help. Here are some resources in response to these events.: There is an archives of web sites about the Sept. 11 occurrances at http://september11.archive.org/. Nationwide Artisitc Responses to the Sept. 11 Tragedy and its Aftermath On Oct. 8 there was a national campaign for Scarves for Solidarity. See http://www.interfaithpeace.org . It was good to see these photos of reactions from other countries.: http://coo.stonekitty.net/thankyou/ If you'd like to sign a petition to the President and Congress with the message "Justice, Not Terror" http://www.moveon.org/justice What to do in case of war http://www.snopes2.com/rumors/realdeal.htm Photo essay on Afghanistan is informative http://www.viceland.com/issues/v8n6/htdocs/AFGHANISTAN/1.php An Afghan American speaks http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2001/09/14/afghanistan/ How to help and coping links http://www.helping.org Area Aid and Relief organizations http://DCpages.com/Community/Pentagon_Disaster/AID_and_Relief/ NYCPPI - New York City aid to families of Police, Fire, EMS http://www.linkshare.com/resourcecenter/fireman.html Help the non-fundamentalist Afghanistans - women, teachers, and children to help stand up for themselves http://rawa.fancymarketing.net/help.htm Displaying and Caring for the American Flag by the Boy Scouts http://www.bsa.scouting.org/excomm/flag/ A local, suppportive multifaith community http://www.dmuuc.org Want to educate yourself about terrorism and the Middle East?
