CLINTON COLUMN FOR SEPTEMBER 26, 2002
The past week was a busy and fun time for me. A boat trip on the Patuxent River on Monday, a Crab Feast with the Ft.Washington/Accokeek Democratic Club on Tuesday, and a wonderful talk by a policewoman at the National Association of Retired Federal Employees on Thursday, along with exercise class each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday morning. On Saturday, I attended a picnic with the local chapter of the DAR, which I plan to join soon. I feel so blessed that I am able to continue to drive my car, get my own gas, and go where I want to go. Each day, I wake up thanking God for my health and for the country I live in, and I end the day the same way. I hope that all of my readers agree with me, and I thank you for being there.

If you are thinking of doing some redecorating for fall, I recently read some hints about fabric use in the Pennysaver, such as don't hesitate to use one strong pattern in a room, even it it is a large-scale floral, paisley or other design. To maximize the impact, combine it with more subtle, understated fabrics and wallpaper. If you have furniture you are tired of, but can't afford to buy anything new, reupholstering is a good idea to update. Some rooms look best if you use one strong pattern on several surfaces. Sometimes you can use a fabric that has wallpaper to match. Rooms will have a more pulled-together look if you repeat the main fabrics. For an especially luxurious look, use an interesting pattern to upholster your walls. Fabrics can be applied flat to the wall. Don't feel the need to match too many pieces because that can look boring. Combine a pattern like a floral in one of the pieces with one or more solid or textured pieces, and then add a coordinating strip or check. It gives a room a more energetic and up-to-date look than one with matched furniture.
