CLINTON COLUMN FOR MARCH 27, 2003

Next weekend is time for Daylight Savings Time. Isn't it wonderful to see those numbers on the weather chart - 50s, 60s, 70s? I am sure that all of you are glad to see the snow disappear, and be glad we don't live in Denver.

It is my hope that by the time you read this column, this awful war will be over. I was in agreement with the anti-war folks, but once it starts, we have to stand behind our country's leaders, and pray they are doing the right thing.

April 5 is the first date for the Tool Museum at Patuzent River Park this year. We will be open on Saturday and Sunday both, from 1 to 4 pm. I will be your tour guide there again, most of the time. If you need more information, call me.

Many of you read the article in the Journal about Dennis Felton, a Clinton resident who graduated from Surrattsville, and is now head coach at Western Kentucky. If you follow basketball, you know that they played in the NCAA this year, and, of course, by the time you read this, we will all know if they won. Since I go to an exercise class at the Clinton Baptist Church, and Dennis' mother is our leader, I hear a lot about Dennis. She is a very proud mother, and I am sure all of you understand.

With Easter fast arriving, I would like to tell you about the programs at Faith United Methodist Church in Accokeek. As usual, the Fish Fry will take place every Friday during Lent, April 4, 11, and 18, from 4 to 7 pm. The cost is only $8 and you get 12 oz of fish, plus French Fries, cole slaw, and hush puppies. On Holy Thursday, we will again have a Seder meal at 6:30 pm, cooked by our resident chef, Ernie (who also cooks the fish). On Good Friday, there will be a Tenebrae Service by the men at 8 pm. Sunrise Service will take place at 6:30 am and our regular worship service is at 10:30 am. Come join us for any of these programs, but especially for one of the Sunday services.

The Hollywood Optimist Club will be holding its annual Boat Show with boats, trailers, accessories, nautical gifts, fishing tackle, refreshments and children's activities on April 12, 10 am to 6 pm, and April 13, 10 am to 4 pm at the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department grounds and Social Hall on Route 235. Call 301-373-4722 for more information.

The In-Home RX Program offers breathing medications and nebulizers for patients with asthma, emphysema and COPD. The program is free if you qualify. Call 800-344-5764 for more information.

The Sixth Annual Queen Anne Day Festival will be held on October 18 from 11 am to 5 pm at the Patuzent River 4-H Center on Queen Anne Road in Upper Marlboro. They are looking for crafters and artists to take part in this event. Call 301-249-9761.

The Dr. Mudd House and Museum is looking for volunteers age 16 and older to give tours of the house and museum and work in the gift shop. If you would like to do something like this, call them at 301-274-9358 or 301-893-1589.

The Social Security Administration can be reached at 800-SSA-1213 any time of the day or night, for any information you need.

Southern Maryland Hospital Center offers prenatal childbirth classes to prepare expectant parents for delivery from Monday to Thursday at 7 pm and one Saturday a month from 9 am to 4 pm in the library. Working participants can attend one night per week. There is a fee and to register, call 301-877-5740.

A free program providing an understanding of heart failure, symptoms and management is held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 10 am at Southern Maryland Hospital Center. To register, call 301-877-7370.

If you would like to attend a fashion show, and you can't afford a trip to New York, Corcoran will be presenting the tailored luxury and elegance of the Armani Collezion Spring 2003 collection. Saks Jandel, Washington's premier specialty store, will be hosting this seminar on April 3 at 6:30 pm. Call them at 202-639-1770.

Would you like to be happy? Here are a few ideas you can use: Have friends you can laugh with; Do something different; Take the 10 year test (write down what you think your life might be like in 10 years and then keep a journal); Let go of past hurts; sleep good; and most of all, be healthy.

There are more chickens than people in the world.
