CLINTON COLUMN FOR FEBRUARY 13, 2003
Happy Valentine's Day to everyone. Hope your loved ones are good to you.
While I am writing this column, I am looking at the results of another snowstorm which has dropped enough inches on my car that I won't be going anywhere for a while. I sure will be glad when spring comes. The only good thing about this one is that it came on a day I did not have to go anywhere.
Joyful Noise Gospel Music will be performed by the Sweet Adelines at Calvary Methodist Church, 3235 Leonardtown Road, in Waldorf this Sunday, February 16 at 2 pm. For more information, call 301-934-0334.
If you are interested in hearing the Air Force Band, they will be performing at the DAR Constitution Hall each Sunday. This Sunday, February 16, Tony Tenille will be with them; February 23 will be the Gatlin Brothers and Andy Andrew; March 3 will be Three mo' Tenors; March 9 will be Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. A celebration of abstinence for age 11 and older with an adult, sponsored by Camp Blaze, will be held in New Carrollton on February 16 from 1 to 7 pm. There will be booths on abstinence education beginning at 1 pm, dinner at 3 pm and speakers at 4:15 pm, followed by testimonies and abstinence vows After that, there will be the opportunity to dance until 7 pm. In honor of Black History Month, Our Black Author's Foundation is compiling its annual list of best-selling books written by authors from Prince George's County. Authors are invited to showcase their works by submitting their names and book titles to be included on the list. Call 240-353-3609.
Guiding Eyes for the Blind is searching for volunteers age 16 and older, to receive a puppy when it is eight weeks old and raise it until it is 18 months old. Approved medical expeisnses are covered and classes and ongoing support are provided. Call 410-356-9438 or 410-933-0662.
A Diabetes Self-Management Education Program of Southern Maryland Hospital Center focuses on the management of Type I and II diabetes and provides participants with education, training and support in a two-week program with six sessions in the day or evening. Call 301-877-5560.
Southern Maryland Hospital also has an Asthma and Allergy Center, which provides a detailed evaluation, with medical history, physical examination, consultation with a pulmonologist and breathing test, to help individuals manage their disease. Call 301-877-4616.

A Mall Walkers Program is offered by the Southern Maryland Hospital with supervised, all-weather walking, free blood pressure monitoring for all ages at the St. Charles Towne Center in Waldorf, Monday to Friday, and Forest Village Park Mall in Forestville, on the first and thirdWednesdays of each month, both from 7:30 to 9:30 am.
