CLINTON COLUMN FOR JANUARY 2, 2003
Yes, it is, it's 2003. Amazing, isn't it? I don't know how many of you senior citizens out there, like me, thought you would never live long enough to see this year happen, but each time a new one comes along, I wonder again why I am still here. Of course, I have no desire to make a change in the situation, understand, but I still wonder. Let's all hope and pray that this year becomes one of the best we have ever seen, in every way, no more snipers, no al queda, and positively no war!!
Today is the day for you to join the group of folks who are the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 2262. They meet in the banquet room at Tucker's Restaurant on Marlboro Pike at 12 noon, where they first have a nice lunch, and then a meeting. These meetings are always on the first Thursday of the month, and this time they are welcoming some new members. If you would like to become one of those new members, or you are a member already and have no way to get to the meeting, call Bob Jacobs at 301-753-4382.
If you are a retired federal employee, you know that they are giving us a 1.4% increase in our annuity, and this, of course, amounts to $1.40 for each $100 that you already get. If you are not yet a member of NARFE, please think about joining. The more members we have, the more clout we have on Capitol Hill.
During the recent NARFE convention, a resolution was adopted supporting issuance by the postal Service of an Alzheimer's semi-postal stamp, with part of the funds going for research. NARFE has been supporting the Alzheimer's Association for the last five years, and we are excited to see this happen.
The 2003 Retired Federal Employees Handbook has just been published and is completely revised and updated, giving the latest updates and information on policies affecting our retirement benefits, health and life insurance, Medicare and Social Security. If you are interested in ordering one, it is only $9.95 (plus $3.75 S & H) and you can order it through www..fedweek.com/publications/default.asp or call the 24-hour toll-free order line at 888-333-9335. You can also order by mailing to FEDweek, P.O.Box 5519, Glen Allen, VA 23058.
