According to new guidelines issued by the American Cancer Society, women over age 70 who have had at least three consecutive normal Pap tests for cervical cancer in the past 10 years may stop being screened. The risk of cervical cancer is dramatically reduced in women older than 70. However, regular screening may still be advised for some older women, such as those who have previously had cervical cancer, those with a weakened immune system due to disease or those who have been sexually active with a new partner in the past few years. Talk with your doctor about what is best for you.
