CLINTON COLUMN FOR OCTOBER 3, 2002

While you are reading this column, I have to tell you I am enjoying myself on a cruise to Bermuda. It is somewhere I had always wanted to go, so, although I can't tell you in this column how it was, I am hoping it will be as good as I'd hoped.

This past weekend was a celebration of life for two of my sons-in-law, who are both 50 this year. They are good ole WestVirginia boys, and a big part of my family. I want to say Happy Birthday to Dave and George and I hope they will be around for a long time.

On September 22, I attended a performance of the Sweet Adelines at St. Johns Church in Clinton. They are a group of wonderful women who have great voices, and they sang a lot of familiar songs. On Saturday, October 26, there will be a performance at 3 pm at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center Theater in Arlington. If you are interested in going to this performance, let me know. We might get a bus if there are enough people interested. Their website is www.potomacharmony.org.

A coalition of community support groups in Charles County has been organized by the Charles County Parent Center to hold the first annual Disability Awareness Fair. The theme of the fair is Celebrating Diverse Abilities. Cosponsoring organizations are Charles County Public Schools and Maryland State Department of Education Partners for Success, along with support from Charles County Health Department, Community Services, Public Library, and various other community agencies. The Fair will be held this Saturday, October 5, from 10 am to 3 pm at the F.B.Gwynn Educational Center in La Plata. It will serve as a forum for a wide range of activities for friends, neighbors, and families of children with disabilities within the county to include workshops, networking, entertainment, arts and crafts, games and food. There will also be door prizes and "Music Together with Marla" will have an exhibit as well as a free workshop. Contact Joanne Lunsford at 301-609-3154 for more information.
