CLINTON COLUMN FOR OCTOBER 24, 2002

You who are my friends, and even some of my readers, know how I feel about my little car. Well, I totaled it last week, and ended up in the hospital with a sore shoulder and bruised ribs. Thank God that was all, but I am still feeling pretty rough. It is good that I don't really have to go to a job, or anything like that, since I probably will be down for at least another week. I fell asleep, crossed the road, and mowed down a farmer's mailbox. We have pretty much decided it was because my exhaust system was not in good shape and I may have been breathing in some carbon monoxide. I am lucky that no cars were coming on the other side, so my Guardian Angels were busy again.

A Happy Belated Third Birthday to Brandon Ellis Johnson of Clinton, on October 19. Brandon's parents are Brent and Joannett Johnson, and he has a seven-month old sister Jolie.

Rev.Don Cameron-Kragt, minister of Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church, had a heart attack earlier this month after playing racquetball at the hotel gym across from Southern Maryland Hospital. Being so close to the hospital probably saved his life, at the young age of 48. Services at the church have been provided by Jaco ten Hove of Paint Branch and John Crestwell, member and seminary student graduate. Next Sunday (October 27) will be a family service coordinated by the Director of Religious Education, Dawn Star Borchelt for the All Souls Day Celebration following the intergenerational Halloween party with haunted house and dance on Saturday night, October 26. For more information, you can call 301-449-4308 or go the website at dmuuc.org.

If you are a member of NARFE, you are eligible to have a photograph be a part of their 2004 calendar. The photos do not have to be NARFE related. They can be seascapes, landscapes, scenery, or whatever you are good at photographing. If NARFE is involved, so much the better, but this is not a prerequisite. Polaroid pictures will not be accepted, and the best ones would be horizontal. Send your photos to National Headquarters, Office of the Vice President. If you have any questions, call the Public Relations Department at 703-838-7760, ext.369 or email pr@narfe.org. Include your name, address, and phone number with your submission. If you submit a digital photo, and it is selected, you will be asked to send the disc.

The Soho in New York, the Corcoran here, and ten other sites around the world will be the place for many photographs that have been taken since September 11. The exhibition is titled "here is New York." The photographs have been submitted by many different people and everyone who sees them for the first time remarks on their beauty, but it is a terrible beautify, born of fire, dust, and death. The exhibit will be at the Corcoran until some time in January, 2003. Call them at 202-639-1700 if you need more information.

In Scotland, a new game was invented. It was entitled "Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden" and thus, the word Golf.
